Project Fact Sheet

PURPOSE
To provide for a Community Centre in Lautoka for Sangam members and their families to get together and interact. To establish a model Sangam Community Centre devoted to social and cultural activities.

 

SITE

A five acre native lease has been acquired adjacent to Lovu Sangam School on the main Kings Road and have been paid for through branch funds, donations and loans. Agreement for Lease issued by Native Land Trust Board for 50 years on 2nd May, 2001. Total Premium, lease cost, first annual rent paid and miscl charges paid: $18,000. 00 (approx.)

 

DEVELOPMENT

To be in stages on short term and long term needs as funds become available through donations and grants. Site cleared. Boundary fenced. Ground prepared with drainage and landscaping with planting of trees and shrubs.

 

ADMINISTRATION BUILDING

The first building being the $30,000 Administration Block has been completed. This has been made possible through substantial assistance provide by Tulsi Construction Ltd, the contractor. Further assistance in kind are being provided by Laser Electrical and Subrail Furniture with Vela Pillay of Construction Equipment Hire Ltd providing full ground leveling work. It is expected that other donors will come forward with equipment and furniture.

 

FUNDING

Cash Donations received from Sangam members in Lautoka and overseas amounting to over $30,000 with several overseas donors from New Zealand, Australia and USA donating $1000 each. Further money is expected from various members who have committed to offer their support.
